[MAJOR SPOILERS!] The scene in question makes perfect sense if you understand the whole dynamic of the Losers Club and It. It exists both in the Macroverse and our universe. In the Macroverse It is pure devouring light, but in our universe it can only take physical shapes that humans give it through their fears. For that to happen, the human has to believe in the reality of the object of their fear. Only children have that level of faith in things like that, and they are subsequently psychologically overwhelmed by that manifestation of their fear. They can't fight back. Adults, on the other hand, refuse to accept the reality of such fears, and in fact lose most of them by the time they are grown. It can influence them and get them to do things without realizing they are serving It (and in the case of particularly deranged adults such as Henry and Tom Rogan It can reveal Its existence to some extent), but because of their lack of childhood faith and imagination, they can't fight It either. The only way It COULD be successfully fought is by combining intellectual and psychological traits of both children AND adults, creating a person who had the imagination to fully accept It's reality, the intellectual and emotional maturity to be able to be strong enough to engage It and use It's own weapons against It, and the faith to believe they COULD win. This is what happens to the Losers Club. It was already happening before they were together, because most of them had already survived an encounter with It by that time, which most children couldn't do. But as they joined together this got stronger. There are several instances where this is observed by adults, but the most striking is the encounter between Eddie and his mother at the hospital, when he cleverly manipulates her into letting him keep his friends. They were all chosen for this to happen to them, so that together they could successfully challenge It. After their encounter with It in It's lair, when they severely injured but didn't kill It, their mission as 11 year olds was done, and as they were trying to get back out, the adult parts of them began to bleed away, and their bond was weakening as a result. Eddie could no longer guide them properly, and as vast and complex as the sewer system was they had virtually no chance of randomly finding an exit. I don't think Beverly fully understood all this, but she did sense that they needed to somehow renew their added maturity and the bond that had come with it if they were to have any real chance of escape. She also knew about the ultimate adult 'activity,' and sensed that if all of the boys did it with her it would lift them back toward adulthood and a full bond again, at least long enough for Eddie to get them back to the surface safely. And of course, it worked. It's not stated, but I believe that if they hadn't done it, even if they had somehow managed to get back out they wouldn't have thought to make the promise that ultimately brought them all back (except Stan) 27 years later. So as disturbing as that scene is (for me too, don't doubt it!), it was necessary for the story, if one fully understands the underlying elements of it. Hope this helps your own understanding!
11:21 I recently finished reading the silent patient by Alex michaelides ) & omg it had me from beginning to end this book was by far my most recent 5star book I highly recommend
I understand you completely. Reading should be fun. I love that you’re going on your own with your reading and not getting caught up in the hype. Which is exactly what I am looking for. There are so many good books out there nice it’s to see something new and unique. Thanks so much.
That edition of Fellowship of the Rings looks so cool!! I've never seen a Lord of the Rings cover like that before. Who was the publisher or what edition is it, if I may ask? Love the video. Am adding Bear and the Nightingale to my TBR.
These were my 2023 5 star reads: The ABC Murders by Agatha Christie The Queen of Sorrow by Sarah Beth Durst Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid (re-read) The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson Mansfield Park by Jane Austen Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
What is the software you are using????
I really tried to watch cuz your books are great but you just started saying stunning way too many times.
Doing book reviews, there should be spoilers. I don't understand why anyone would want to hear anything about a book that they didn't read. And if they don't want to hear anything about a book they haven't read. They shouldn't be watching the video about it.
he Icewind Dale Trilogy & The Dark Elf Trilogy by RA Salvatore
I'm sixteen and I've been reading seriously since I was in primary school But once I got to grade 9 I stopped making time for reading for fun I started reading seriously this year again, I just don't know what to read anymore These recommendations are super helpful
Currently reading Perdido Street Station and it is mindblowingly creative. It dives into some really cool biology of strange organisms, almost like a scientific approach. And the writing/prose is just dripping with atmosphere. It's like nothing I've ever read.
I have only read 4 series, one of which is the witcher and I agree with every single word you said. So I will try one that you loved :)
I don’t know how I missed watching your channel Jessie. El talks about you all the time. I love Cerulean Sea so much, and I can’t wait until the sequel comes out. I need to try Michael J Sullivan.
I am reading this now & I am finding it INSANELY RIDICULOUSLY BORING! I am going to finish it now only because I want to be legitimate when I give it a single star rating & tell everyone it's the worst book I've ever read in my life!!! Never ever again will I attempt to read this author.
I rated 'The Passage' 2 star-ish. It was initially very good but then I found it messed up. I hope you liked it more than I did!
The Last Word is exactly what you said...BONKERS lol 5 stars one of the most fun I've had reading a thriller
How very dare you bump Tress down 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yaaaas Nolyn. All caught up on the Rise and Fall now and am on to Riyria Chronicles 🙌🏻
I added so many of your favorites to my TBR! Thanks for sharing them!
I love hearing your daughter in the background. She's around my daughter's age and she's the same way.
had a blast hearing about your faves of 2023! wishing you many 5 star reads in 2024 and i hope that by the end of this year i will have read some of your faves of last year (now, who’s behind on things? 😂) have a lovely day + happy reading! 💜
I am going to do this with my physical book shelf and my good reads - great idea
Good take on eragon
Nice to have a video from you, it made me happy ❤ I totally agree with you 100% on all you said about the Greenbone saga, for me it got better and better with every book and Jade Legacy was just wonderful! The novella is good too, not as good but it was fun to spend more time with the characters and have some very interesting revelations. I can't wait to see what Fonda Lee writes next. I am currently reading the Tyranny of Faith and I am enjoying it but I am having similar feelings to you, so it kjnd of made me nervous 😅 but i also enjoyed The first one a lot so i will have to finish to see for myself… *fingers crossed*
I am glad you enjoyed greenbone saga. It is my all-time favorite trilogy. I was bumped when the adaptation deal fell through and now I kinda want it to be an animation of some sort because I think that will give the creators much room for creativity. Hopefully, the adaptation will materialize in my lifetime.
So happy to see you again talking about books that you enjoyed joyfully! 😁
I missed you so much! I love hearing you talk about books!
you know what, if you think about it it’s actually better to have this faves video late. hear me out cuz there’s so many of these in dec/jan that you somewhat get overwhelmed and forget some of the books/ content. In my case I use this videos as ultimate recs, so being overloaded of information isn’t good. Watching this later in the year tho, brain is fresh and chill. you know what I mean?
I really enjoy Royce and Hadrian. I haven’t read Nolyn yet. I am reading Rise of the Ranger series right now. I really like it. It is classic/ epic fantasy and I love the characters.
Shadows of Self made me sob to my pillow so hard :( :( It was so good haha
Any time of the year is excellent for a favourites book video. 😅
Worth the wait❤ Loved several of these! I reread Combat Codes immediately and then read the second book (which wasn’t quite as wonderful but I will be reading bk 3)
Great video Jessie, always love it when a video pops up from you😊
I LOVED Big Lies In A Small Town(and The Dream Daughter)
I’m on book two of the Greatcoat’s series and am really enjoying it! The audio books make it an amazing experience!
I’m so happy you still did this one! I was originally sad not to see yours since my reading tastes often line up with yours. I’ve made sure to bump up all these on my TBR!! Can’t wait to see what you do next 😊
Not too late lol best of can be done any time...
If people can get past the siblings fighting/ arguing
Enjoyed watching your reviews!
I read/listened to The Last Word (based on your recommendation!) and finished it in one day! This is only the 2nd time in my life where I was able to get through an entire book in a day! I loved it!
Maybe I should give that Sanderson novella a go as I think otherwise he types too much.
I will always take rec videos:). I have been digging through your videos, because I could not remember your recommendation for Michael J. Sullivan series reading order.
I read the Last Tale of the Flower Bride after your recommendation last year and it made it to my top 10 reads of the year too.
Omg, I'm literally JUST starting the cuckoo! Not enough people talk about this series!
The Last House on Needless Street was so good! You have me intrigued with that Diane Chamberlain book. I enjoyed The Dream Daughter by her, so it doesn’t feel like a stretch that I would like it.
Truly a better late than never! Great reviews! ❤
Never too late to gush about faves! So many shared favourites and so many books I still want to get to. I am especially excited to dive into Nolyn and Greatcoats, your enthusiasm is so infectious. Hope you find many more faves this year!! 🥰
I'm here for a favourites video any time of year!
The Last Tale of the Flower Bride - very atmospheric but slow. Not much plot. I managed to guess the twist ending! My best reads of 2023: The Girl with all the Gifts - M.R. Carey. Gut-wrenching zombie story told from the viewpoint of a genius zombie girl. The Book That Wouldn't Burn - Mark Lawrence. Arthur C. Clarke's Rendezvous With Rama meets Asimov's Foundation. A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking - T Kingfisher. Too cute. Young girl who can only use magic for baking, is forced to use her enchanted baked goods to fight off an invading army. Leviathan - Scott Westerfeld. Steampunk/Dieselpunk with lots of details on airships and mechas. Too many Steampunk books use Steampunk only as a fancy dress backdrop. It's refreshing to read books that take the technology seriously.
I have liked most of the Diane Chamberlain books I have read. I have read Big Lies in a Small Town and I did really like it, also loved The Dream Daughter. She is a great story teller and her books are really easy to read.
We miss you, Jessieeee <333 Glad you have lots of 5 stars last year.
